Developing Strategies for Transformational Teaching
“This workshop ignites my spirit!”
The leaders of Compassion in East Indonesia have a very significant role in building healthy churches, because they directly influence four strategic groups of people: church leaders, parents, youth, and children. This year, our Indonesia team has provided comprehensive, holistic training for them in each of those areas, equipping them to build others across East Indonesia.
This work began in May, shortly after Indonesia banned intercity travel due to COVID-19. They re-designed their entire Building Healthy Churches (BHC) training into an online format for all senior and mid-level leaders of Compassion as well as for those directly on the field. These leaders immediately grasped the exciting possibilities and embraced the vision to build healthy churches fully.
“After eight years of facilitating churches, I wanted to give up because I felt like I was fighting without any opportunity to win. This workshop ignites my spirit. I have a new perspective of the Church ‒ Jesus’ perspective.” (Facilitator for Compassion)
Compassion asked our team to do another online training for those same leaders, this time diving deep into the core models of Building Healthy Leaders (BHL). This training was an even greater paradigm shift. Compassion’s top leaders committed to using the ConneXions Model to build their facilitators and church partners. Shortly after, our team equipped every facilitator in East Indonesia in a series of online trainings.
In a show of support and commitment, all senior leaders re-attended those trainings with their direct reports. They also began using our 5C Checkpoint self-evaluation tool to guide their work, and plan to use this tool annually to create personal development plans for every leader. The facilitators themselves began incorporating BHC and BHL courses in their leader development plans.
Following this, we led a Building Healthy Youth (BHY) online training, which our Indonesia team created, for 50 youth mentors, young leaders, and pastors from across the organization.
A young person attending exhorted her fellow youth in the training:
“This is my encouragement to my generation who are participating in this workshop: let us not stop here. Let us implement what we have learned in these three days to teach other youth around us about this!”
Now requests for these transformative trainings are pouring in from other churches among Compassion’s partners, some in very remote areas. Our team is developing strategies for meeting all of these needs. They are particularly excited about introducing these leaders to the next course, Building Healthy Families, so Compassion church partners can equip parents to build their children in Christ.
