There are two distinct streams of prophecy in the Old Testament regarding the coming Messiah. One stream emphasized the glorious future of the nation of Israel, delivered from her enemies and ruled over by a great Davidic King. The other stream spoke of the redemptive work of the Messiah and portrayed Him, not as a reigning King, but as a suffering Servant who would be rejected and slain to pay for the sins of His people.
