The New Testament does not affirm our individualistic approach to the Christian life. In our religious culture of today the goal is individual maturity, and one means to that end is church life. Biblically, however, the goal is church maturity and one means to that end is individual growth. Spiritual life and spiritual maturity are corporate experiences. Thus, Jesus' purpose is to build His church, not just to have a relationship with individual Christians.
